Graduate Cover Supervisor – SKiP Teacher Training Pathway

Location: North Liverpool
Contract Type: Full-time (Initial 1-Year Contract)
Start Date: September
Salary: Based on experience and qualifications
Progression: School-based Teacher Training (SKiP Programme) from Year 2

Overview:

Are you a graduate looking to become a teacher? Join our school as a Cover Supervisor and begin your journey toward a rewarding teaching career through the SKiP (School-based Initial Teacher Training Programme).

This is an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about education who wants to gain valuable in-school experience before qualifying as a teacher. You’ll start by supporting lessons and covering classes, then progress into a fully supported training programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the SKiP route.

What is the SKiP Programme?

The SKiP (School-based Initial Teacher Training) programme is a practical, school-embedded route into teaching. It allows aspiring teachers to train on the job, learning alongside experienced educators while working towards QTS, with the option to study for a PGCE alongside it.

Year 1: Cover Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across a variety of subjects when teachers are absent.
  • Manage student behaviour in line with the school’s policies.
  • Support departments with admin, interventions, and classroom activities.
  • Build rapport with students and gain confidence in leading a classroom.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and school life.
  • Prepare for entry onto the SKiP programme through mentoring and CPD.

Year 2: Teacher Training via SKiP

  • Begin your SKiP training in a subject area you are passionate about (e.g., Maths, English, Science, etc.).
  • Receive regular mentoring, lesson observations, and feedback.
  • Teach a reduced timetable as you develop your skills and confidence.
  • Work towards achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and potentially a PGCE, depending on the provider partnership.
  • Fully embed yourself in the curriculum and contribute to the life of the school.

Candidate Requirements

  • A degree (minimum 2:2 classification) – any subject considered, preference given to core subjects (Maths, English, Science).
  • A strong desire to become a qualified teacher.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive attitude.
  • Commitment to a two-year journey from graduate to teacher.

Why Join Us?

  • Structured pathway into teaching via SKiP.
  • Full salary during your Cover Supervisor year.
  • High-quality mentoring and support from experienced staff.
  • Access to internal CPD and external training.
  • Opportunity to gain QTS and potentially PGCE with no tuition costs (fully funded route).
  • Become part of a forward-thinking and supportive team.
