Teacher of English required for Portsmouth Secondary School

The School...
...is a vibrant learning environment with a strong community ethos, located close to the coast, in the port city of Portsmouth. The School itself boasts a diverse and dynamic Student and Staff population, with a culture of respect and hard work. Students and Staff support each other, and in turn enjoy positive learning and working environments. This School is a large, 11-16 mixed Secondary, teaching at Key Stages 3 up to 4. Graded "Good" by Ofsted, with excellent transport links and state-of-the-art facilities. The school is part of a large multi academy trust and provides its staff with regular CPD opportunities to benefit from practises shared across its site. The Academy has another Primary school in the area but regularly works with another Academy trust situated 1 mile away.
The Faculty of English and the role...
The English faculty is lead by an experienced and supportive Head of Faculty. The department stands alone and is not shared with Drama or Media, allowing the department and its teachers to fully focus on English Literature and Language and improve reading for all pupils. The department itself has an enthusiastic and committed team of Teachers with 2 additional teachers each overseeing a key stage. This would be a full time role with PPA hours incorporated into your timetable to allow for adequate planning and feedback time.The School work towards the AQA curriculum and provides KS3 pupils with 5 lessons per week. This is increased to 6 at KS4 with an additional 2 hours of literacy in year 11.
TLR
The school are ideally looking to appoint an English teacher who is in search of a TLR position. This would involve mentoring NQTs through their first year of teaching in which you would have allocated time away from your timetable to meet discuss and coach teachers to ensure they are on track to successfully completed their first year as a newly qualified teacher. Ideally you will have leadership experience or have had some coaching experience with NQTs in previous positions.
The School are looking for someone who is able to work alongside their existing teachers...
- Advising students on career pathways
- Organising and delivering classroom lessons to students
- Evaluating a student's class work and assignments
- Preparing classroom and coursework materials, homework assignments, and handouts
- Recording and maintain accurate student attendance records and progress records
- Classroom management
- Developing English lesson plans in line with the National Curriculum
- Maintaining discipline in the classroom
- Creating a vibrant teaching atmosphere
