English Teacher (Maternity Cover) – Stockport Secondary School
We are excited to offer a rewarding maternity cover position for a skilled and enthusiastic English teacher at a successful secondary school in Stockport. This fixed-term role, starting September 2025, is ideal for a teacher who thrives in a supportive environment and wants to make a meaningful impact in students’ literacy and communication skills.
You will be responsible for teaching English across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, preparing students for GCSE examinations while fostering a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking.
Key responsibilities:

Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons covering literature, language, and creative writing

Plan schemes of work that meet the diverse needs of learners, including those with SEND or EAL
-
Use a variety of assessment tools to monitor progress and inform teaching strategies
-
Encourage and develop independent reading and analytical skills through class discussions and activities
-
Collaborate with the English department to support cross-curricular literacy initiatives
-
Participate in departmental meetings, staff training, and school-wide events
-
Support exam preparation and revision sessions, ensuring students are confident and well-prepared

Ideal candidate profile:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a passion for English language and literature

Experience teaching at KS3 and KS4, preferably with GCSE exam preparation

Strong classroom management and the ability to engage a wide range of learners

Creativity in lesson planning and the ability to inspire a love of language and literature
-
Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude
-
Flexibility and resilience to adapt to the demands of a maternity cover role
