Job description

English Teacher – Full-Time (Temporary)

Location: Preston (PR3)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, until at least Christmas 2026

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join a welcoming secondary school in the Preston (PR3) area from September 2026. This is a full-time position running until at least December 2026, with the potential for extension for the right candidate.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons across Key Stage 3 & 4, inspiring students and supporting them to achieve their full potential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and effective English lessons to KS3/4 students
  • Prepare students for GCSE examinations using AQA English Language and Eduqas Literacy specifications
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress
  • Create a positive learning environment that promotes excellent behaviour and engagement
  • Contribute to the wider school community and departmental development

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Proven experience teaching Key Stage 3&4 English
  • Strong working knowledge of AQA English Language and Eduqas Literacy
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • A passion for English and the ability to motivate learners of all abilities
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
