Job description

Teacher of English (Maternity Cover, Full-Time)
Start Date: September 2026

We are seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic, and inspiring Teacher of English to join a supportive and ambitious secondary school on a full-time maternity cover basis from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to join a thriving English department, where high standards, creativity, and a love of learning are at the heart of everything we do. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, fostering students’ literacy skills and encouraging a genuine appreciation of English language and literature.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that engage and challenge students of all abilities.
  • Teach across KS3 and KS4, preparing students for GCSE examinations.
  • Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to a collaborative department, sharing best practice and supporting curriculum development.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment with strong behaviour management.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Have a strong subject knowledge of English Language and Literature.
  • Demonstrate a passion for teaching and learning, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Be committed to raising achievement and maintaining high standards.
  • Be an effective team player with excellent communication skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
