Design & Technology Technician – Braintree, Essex
Salary: £25,183 – £27,269 per annum (SCP 6–11) | Pro Rata: £23,120.64 – £25,035.81
Contract Type: Support Staff (Permanent) | Term Time Only + 2 Weeks (42 working weeks)
Hours: 36 hours per week
Location: Braintree, Essex

Our client, a high-achieving and heavily oversubscribed mixed secondary school based in Braintree, is seeking a committed and experienced Design and Technology Technician to join their dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of outstanding DT education in a thriving and well-resourced learning environment.

The Role:

As the DT Technician, you will support the Design & Technology department by preparing materials and resources, maintaining workshop equipment, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for practical learning. Working closely with teaching staff and students, you will help facilitate hands-on experiences that develop creativity, innovation, and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare tools, equipment and materials for DT lessons

  • Support practical sessions across areas such as Resistant Materials, Graphics, Product Design, and Food Technology

  • Maintain, clean and store equipment in line with health and safety standards

  • Ensure a safe working environment by carrying out regular risk assessments and equipment checks

  • Provide technical support to students during practical lessons

  • Contribute to displays, exhibitions, and the wider DT curriculum

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience in a similar technician role within a school or workshop environment

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements in a DT setting

  • Skilled in using and maintaining DT machinery and tools

  • Organised, proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Enthusiastic about supporting young people in their learning
