Job description

Teaching Personnel are seeking a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join a respected secondary school in Portsmouth. This full-time role is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain hands-on classroom experience or explore a future career in teaching.

About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for delivering pre-prepared lessons to students aged 11–16 in the absence of their regular teacher. Your main goal will be to ensure students stay engaged with their learning and maintain a positive, productive classroom environment. The role may also involve providing light support to pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and supervise pre-set lessons across a range of subjects.

  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, following school policies.

  • Keep students engaged and focused throughout each lesson.

  • Provide additional support to SEN pupils when required.

  • Give clear feedback to teaching staff regarding student progress and conduct.

About You

  • Experience working with secondary-age pupils is desirable, ideally including some SEN experience.

  • Confident classroom management and the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.

  • Strong communication skills with a natural ability to build positive relationships with students.

  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting young people in their education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
