Job description

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a Food Technology Cover Supervisor to support a secondary school in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for food, nutrition, and practical learning to play a key role in maintaining engaging lessons and supporting students’ progress across Key Stages 3 and 4.

As a Food Tech Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for delivering pre-set lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring that students remain engaged, focused, and safe during practical and theory sessions. You will also assist with the preparation of ingredients, equipment, and resources for practical lessons when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise Food Technology lessons in the absence of the class teacher.

  • Ensure that all students are engaged, motivated, and following lesson plans.

  • Prepare and organise ingredients, utensils, and equipment for practical sessions.

  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene in the classroom and kitchen.

  • Support students with practical tasks, offering guidance where necessary.

  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies.

  • Provide general administrative or departmental support as required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Confident in supervising groups of secondary-aged students.

  • Passionate about food, cooking, and supporting practical learning.

  • Organised, proactive, and able to adapt quickly to changing situations.

  • A strong communicator with good classroom management skills.

  • Experienced in a school environment or interested in developing a career in education.

Experience within Food Technology, catering, or a similar setting is desirable, but not essential — full support and guidance will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
