Job description

A secondary school in Tidworth, Salisbury is looking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join their team from September 2025. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about education and looking to gain hands-on experience in a classroom setting.

The role of Cover Supervisor involves supporting students across a range of subjects by delivering pre-set work in the absence of the usual class teacher. The school is well-established, with a strong leadership team and a welcoming staff community that offers excellent support and guidance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising whole classes during short-term teacher absences

  • Ensuring students remain on task with the work set by teaching staff

  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with the school’s policies

  • Responding to any questions from pupils about the work

  • Reporting back to teaching staff with feedback on lesson engagement and behaviour

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Confidence in managing and leading a classroom

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A calm and professional approach

  • Previous experience working with young people (desirable but not essential)

  • A genuine interest in supporting students’ learning and development

This position would suit a recent graduate, a teaching assistant looking to take the next step, or someone considering a career in teaching. The school provides a supportive environment with full training offered to the successful candidate.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
