Cover Supervisor – Secondary School – Alton – January 2026 Start

Are you looking to gain hands-on classroom experience in a secondary school setting?
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Cover Supervisor to work in a welcoming secondary school in Alton from January 2026.

This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, unqualified teachers, or experienced education support staff who are confident leading a classroom and keen to develop their experience within education. As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning during teacher absences.

You will be responsible for supervising classes across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering pre-prepared lesson plans, managing behaviour, and supporting students to stay engaged and on task throughout the school day.

The role will involve:

  • Supervising lessons in the absence of the class teacher
  • Delivering pre-set work across a range of subjects
  • Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Supporting students with their learning and engagement
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff at the end of each lesson

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Confidence leading a classroom of secondary-aged pupils
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A calm, adaptable, and professional approach
  • Experience working with young people (desirable but not essential)
  • An interest in education or a future career in teaching

This role is a fantastic stepping stone into teaching, with many Cover Supervisors progressing into teacher training, long-term teaching roles, or permanent school-based positions through Teaching Personnel.
