The Role

As a SEN Cover Supervisor, you will take ownership of the classroom during teacher absence, ensuring learning continues uninterrupted.

Using pre-planned lessons, you will confidently manage behaviour, support engagement, and adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of students. This is a highly rewarding role that combines classroom leadership with meaningful student support.

Your Responsibilities

✅ Lead and supervise whole-class learning in the absence of teaching staff

✅ Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of curriculum subjects

✅ Create a positive, productive and engaging learning environment

✅ Maintain high expectations for behaviour and participation

✅ Adapt lesson delivery to support students with additional needs

✅ Use effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

✅ Monitor student engagement and progress throughout lessons

✅ Provide clear feedback to teaching staff following lessons

✅ Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams

✅ Follow safeguarding procedures and professional standards at all times

We're Looking For

• Previous experience working within a secondary school setting
• Experience independently leading groups of young people
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities
• A calm, resilient and professional approach
• Confidence working with students who require additional support
• A genuine passion for helping young people succeed

Desirable Experience

While not essential, we'd love to hear from candidates with:

• Previous Cover Supervisor experience
• Experience working within specialist schools, PRUs or alternative provisions
• Knowledge of SEMH, Autism and challenging behaviour
• Understanding of restorative practices and positive behaviour strategies
• A degree or relevant educational qualification
• Ambitions to progress into teaching or educational leadership
