Teaching Personnel is seeking a confident and capable SEN Cover Supervisor to join a specialist secondary provision in Oldham this September. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with established classroom experience who are looking to develop their leadership skills and take greater responsibility for learning and behaviour within a specialist educational setting.
We are looking for professionals who can confidently lead a classroom, build strong relationships with students, and maintain high standards of engagement and behaviour whilst supporting pupils with additional needs.

This specialist provision supports secondary-aged students with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), ADHD and communication difficulties.

The Opportunity
As a SEN Cover Supervisor, you will be entrusted with overseeing learning during teacher absence, delivering pre-planned lessons and ensuring students remain engaged and on task.
This is not a support role. You will be expected to confidently manage classes, lead learning activities, maintain behaviour standards and adapt your approach to meet the diverse needs of learners.
The role is particularly suited to individuals considering a future in teaching, pastoral leadership or wider educational management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead whole-class learning in the absence of teaching staff
- Deliver pre-prepared lessons across a range of subject areas
- Establish clear expectations and maintain high standards of behaviour
- Adapt lesson delivery to meet the needs of students with SEN
- Promote engagement, participation and achievement throughout lessons
- Utilise effective behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
- Foster a positive, safe and purposeful learning environment
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and pastoral teams
- Monitor student progress and provide detailed feedback following lessons
- Uphold safeguarding policies and professional standards at all times
We're Looking For
- Previous experience working within a secondary school environment
- Experience leading groups of young people independently
- Confidence managing classroom behaviour and maintaining engagement
- Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
- The ability to remain calm, resilient and authoritative under pressure
- A proactive and professional approach to education
- A genuine commitment to achieving positive outcomes for students with additional needs
Highly Desirable
- Previous Cover Supervisor experience
- Experience within specialist provisions, PRUs or alternative provisions
- Experience supporting students with SEMH, Autism or challenging behaviour
- Knowledge of restorative approaches and positive behaviour strategies
- A degree or relevant educational qualification
- Aspirations towards teacher training or educational leadership

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
