BSL Teaching Assistant- Highgate- Primary Full-time and Ad Hoc positions

 

Teaching Personnel are looking for teaching assistants with specialist skills to work in our incredible special schools, devoted to providing world class education to students with special and complex needs. We are especially interested in bringing on board individuals with experience working with students with visual or hearing impairments.

We are currently working with 2 Ofsted rated 'Good' schools in the Highbury area who spcialise in teaching students with hearing and visual impairments. The schools follow a standardised curriculum but this is delivered in an innovative and engaing way that allows them to cover the curriculum topics in a way that is inclusive to their students, as well as also teaching BSL to students new to using this and use this heavily throughout their lessons so indivudals with qualifications and experience in BSL would be welcomed to this school. Also candidates with experience using Braille and other communication methods for students with visual impairments are welcome.

The Primary school uses the following reading schemes:

-Visual Phonics

-Oxford Reading Tree Songbird (Iphonics)

-Alpha Kids Guided Reading Programme

Knowledge and understanding of these programmes and how to implement them with students is appreciated in successful candidates as you will be working alongside the students to support their learning with the aid of the class teacher.

There are both opportunities for full-time and permanent placements and daily supply work for those looking for more flexible work patterns.

The iseal candidate must:

- Have experience working with students with hearing and/or visual impairments

-Have BSL training (dsireable but not essential)

-Have a good understanding of non-verbal communication methods and devices

-Be patient, friendly and approachable

-Have a passion for education

-Have right to work in the UK

Please be aware all candidates will be required to have a current enhanced Child Only DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one and must be able to provide 2 recent, professional referees for roles relevant to childcare/education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
