Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant (SEN/SEMH)

Location: PR7 Area
Hours: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning? Do you have experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour or have additional needs?

We are currently recruiting Behaviour Support Teaching Assistants to work across a range of SEN and SEMH schools in the PR7 area, with both full-time and part-time positions available for a September start.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to access education, helping them develop positive behaviours, emotional regulation, and confidence within the classroom.

You will provide both 1:1 and small group support, assisting pupils with a variety of needs including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Communication and interaction difficulties

Responsibilities

  • Support students in managing their behaviour and emotions.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging learning activities.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and intervention plans.
  • Encourage engagement, attendance, and academic progress.

Requirements

✅ Experience working with children or young people (school, care, youth work, coaching, support work, or similar)
✅ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
✅ Calm, resilient, and patient approach
✅ Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and effectively
✅ Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable Experience

  • SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision experience
  • Team Teach or other behaviour management training
  • Experience supporting vulnerable learners
