Job description

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children? Do you have the patience, resilience, and commitment to support pupils with additional behavioural and learning needs?

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school based in Wigan. This role involves working 1:1 with a pupil who requires behaviour and learning support, as well as providing general classroom assistance and helping to maintain a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with a specific pupil, providing tailored support to meet their individual behavioural and learning needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and activities.
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies.
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil to support their development and wellbeing.
  • Liaise with teaching staff, SENCO, and parents/carers to monitor progress and adapt support plans as necessary.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with additional behavioural or learning needs (desirable but not essential).
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to managing behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
