Job description

Do you have the resilience, empathy and determination to make a difference in the lives of young people who need it most?

We are looking for committed and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistants to join our team, working with pupils who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. Our setting supports children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and a range of complex backgrounds.

The role:

  • Support students on a 1:1 or small group basis to manage their behaviour and re-engage with learning

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe, understood, and motivated

  • Work closely with teaching staff, behaviour mentors and other professionals to create a consistent and supportive learning environment

  • Use a trauma-informed and restorative approach to behaviour management

  • De-escalate challenging situations calmly and safely, following school policies and procedures

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with young people with behavioural or SEMH needs (social, emotional and mental health). We find those with a background in youth work or sports coaching also get on well.

  • A calm, patient and non-judgemental approach

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Resilience and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

  • Ability to remain professional, positive, and consistent under pressure

In return, we offer:

  • A supportive and committed staff team who value collaboration and wellbeing

  • Ongoing training in behaviour management, safeguarding and mental health

  • Our own payroll department - no surprise charges from umbrella companies
  • The opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to young people’s lives

  • A rewarding, challenging and varied working environment

This is more than just a job — it’s a chance to be a positive role model and a crucial part of a young person’s journey.
