Start date: December 2026
Contract: Full-time, temporary until June 2027
Hours: Monday to Friday, school hours
Pay: From £97.50 per day, depending on experience

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a confident and consistent Behaviour Support Assistant for a mainstream primary school in Wallasey.

The role will begin in December 2026 and continue full-time until June 2027, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to settle into one school, build trusting relationships and provide consistent support across the academic year.

You will work with pupils who may find it difficult to regulate their emotions, follow classroom expectations or remain engaged with learning. Your role will be to understand the individual child, reinforce clear boundaries and help pupils develop the strategies they need to participate successfully in school life.

What Will the Role Involve?

You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to:

  • Provide individual and small-group behaviour support
  • Help pupils access lessons and remain engaged with learning
  • Support emotional regulation and positive decision-making
  • Use agreed de-escalation and behaviour-support strategies
  • Reinforce clear, consistent classroom routines and expectations
  • Help pupils recognise triggers and develop appropriate coping strategies
  • Support transitions between lessons and activities
  • Provide structured support during less formal parts of the school day
  • Encourage confidence, resilience and independence
  • Record relevant information and provide feedback to teaching staff
  • Follow individual support plans, EHCPs and risk assessments where applicable
  • Build positive relationships without lowering expectations
  • Work collaboratively with families and external professionals when required

This is not simply a role focused on managing incidents. The school wants someone who can help pupils understand their behaviour, experience success and develop a more positive relationship with education.

Who Would Suit This Position?

The school would like to hear from applicants with experience in:

  • Behaviour support within a school or specialist setting
  • SEMH and emotional-regulation needs
  • Autism, ADHD or additional learning needs
  • Youth work, mentoring or pastoral support
  • Children’s residential care
  • Family support or early-help services
  • Sports coaching with children or young people
  • Therapeutic or trauma-informed practice
  • Alternative provision or pupil-referral settings

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be useful, but strong relevant experience may also be considered.

The School Is Looking for Someone Who Is:

  • Calm and confident when behaviour becomes challenging
  • Patient, consistent and emotionally regulated
  • Able to build trust while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Comfortable following agreed support and behaviour plans
  • Positive and encouraging without being overly permissive
  • Observant and able to recognise changes in pupil presentation
  • Reliable and able to commit until June 2027
  • Willing to reflect, learn and work as part of a wider team
  • Committed to safeguarding and inclusive education

Team Teach, MAPA, PRICE or other de-escalation training would be advantageous, but it is not essential unless specified by the school.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Full-time work within one Wallasey primary school
  • A consistent placement from December 2026 to June 2027
  • The opportunity to build meaningful relationships with pupils
  • Experience working alongside the school’s SEN and pastoral teams
  • Access to relevant CPD and professional development
  • Weekly pay through PAYE
  • Ongoing support from Teaching Personnel
  • Potential access to further school-based opportunities after the placement

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
