Behaviour Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are working with Primary Schools in Nottingham, to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant. The purpose of the role will be to deliver behaviour support across the school working alongside the pastoral team. Teaching Personnel are looking for candidates who have a background in childcare, counselling, social care and youth work. Primary Schools in Nottingham are looking for an individual who will be committed and enthusiastic in order to establish positive relationships between students and others.

Your role as a behaviour support assistant will consist of supporting pupils with their emotional and social well-being, enabling pupils to access academic work and helping to grow their self esteem and confidence. The pupils that you will be supporting display behaviours that can be seen as challenging. As well as this, some pupils have needs such as ADHD, autism, anxiety and depression.

Ideally for this role, you will have a teaching assistant qualification, however this is not mandatory and we welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced special needs teachers as well as specialist teaching assistants. 

Skills

You'll need to show:

• Good communication and listening skills
• The ability to build and maintain rapport with adults and children
• Calmness under pressure and when dealing with challenging or confrontational behaviour
• Flexibility and adaptability

To work with children, young people and vulnerable groups, you will need to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as well as ensure that you have a Childcare Workforce DBS. 

Work experience

Ideally for this role, you will have a teaching assistant qualification, however this is not mandatory and we welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds. You'll need relevant work experience with children, in an educational setting. This can either be in a paid or voluntary capacity. You may also be able to find experience in:

• Nurseries and schools
• Children's homes
• Family community centres
