Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and proactive Behaviour Mentor to join a dedicated team at an Alternative Provision (AP) school in Truro. This role is a unique opportunity to work closely with students who have severe Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex behavioural challenges, supporting them both emotionally and academically to help them re-engage with education.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with high-level SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Build trusting relationships to help students develop emotional regulation, social skills, and positive behaviour strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Act as a positive role model and advocate for students, helping them develop self-esteem, resilience, and motivation.
- Contribute to behaviour intervention plans and support the delivery of therapeutic or restorative approaches.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH and/or challenging behaviour (ideally in an AP, PRU, SEN or mainstream setting).
- Strong interpersonal and de-escalation skills, with a calm, non-judgemental approach.
- A deep understanding of trauma-informed practice and behaviour as communication.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure, manage complex situations, and remain solution focused.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable young people.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., in youth work, psychology, counselling, or behaviour management) are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
