Autism Teaching Assistant – Specialist ASD Provision

Supporting pupils aged 11–19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

We are recruiting on behalf of of one schools in the Llandilo SA19 area, a specialist centre in Carmarthenshire, for an empathetic and committed Autism Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team.
About Canolfan Cothi:
This purpose-built facility caters for up to 35 pupils aged 11–19, all of whom have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Some learners have severe or profound learning difficulties, and the centre provides a highly supportive and structured environment that focuses on communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
About the Role:
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to provide one-to-one and small-group support. Your role will involve helping pupils to access learning, manage their emotions, and develop essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities:

Supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs across KS3–KS5
-
Assisting with learning activities and tailored interventions
-
Using specialist strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, TEACCH, sensory tools)

Encouraging social interaction and emotional regulation
-
Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents
The Ideal Candidate:
-
Experience working with children or young people with ASD (in education, care or similar settings)
-
Patient, compassionate, and resilient approach
-
Understanding of communication difficulties and sensory needs
-
Ability to build trusting relationships and support positive behaviour
-
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, Autism Awareness) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
