1:1 Autism Support Assistant | Full-Time | Mainstream Primary – Cwmbran | October 2025 Start

Do you have a passion for helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) thrive?
Have you supported individuals with autism—personally, voluntarily, or professionally?

We are seeking a 1:1 Autism Support Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Cwmbran this October 2025. This rewarding role involves supporting a pupil with ASD throughout the school day, helping them feel safe, included, and successful in their learning.

Role Overview

You will:

  • Support a child with autism daily in the classroom

  • Assist with learning tasks, transitions, and routines

  • Use visual aids, sensory tools, and personalised strategies

  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and therapists

  • Create a calm, inclusive learning environment

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. Training is available, but a caring, patient nature is essential.

Essential:

  • Experience supporting someone with autism (personal, voluntary, or professional)

  • Calm, consistent, and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Willingness to follow routines and support strategies

  • Commitment to making a positive difference

Desirable:

  • School or SEN experience

  • Knowledge of ASD strategies (PECS, TEACCH, Makaton)

  • Behaviour management training (Team Teach, MAPA)

  • Qualifications in education, SEN, psychology, or childcare

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
