Autism Learning Support Assistant – ALN Teaching Assistant (Newport & Cwmbran)

Location: Newport & Cwmbran
Position: ALN Teaching Assistant (Autism Learning Support Assistant)
Start Date: ASAP May 2025
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay: From £13.75 per hour


Job Description:

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Autism Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive and experienced team at one of our partnership schools in Newport and Cwmbran. The role involves working in a Learning Resource Base (LRB) supporting pupils with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and some challenging behaviours.

This is a full-time opportunity starting in May 2025, ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a small class of 10 pupils with severe ASD and behavioural needs.

  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Provide social and emotional support, helping children grow and achieve their potential.

  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other teaching assistants.

  • Implement personalised strategies to manage challenging behaviour.

  • Follow all school safeguarding and child protection policies.


Requirements:

  • Must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).

  • Hold or be willing to obtain a Child-Only DBS certificate (Teaching Personnel can assist).

  • Provide two professional references covering the last 24 months.

  • Be resilient, patient, and confident when supporting pupils with behavioural challenges.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Prior experience working with children with SEN, ASD, or ALN.

  • Personal experience with autism or learning disabilities is welcomed.
