ALN Teaching Assistant (Full-Time, Long-Term)
Location: a Primary School in Swansea, SA1
Contract: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 3:30pm)
Duration: Long-Term – Full Academic Year
Start Date: ASAP / Autumn Term
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive primary school in Swansea (SA1). This is a long-term position for the full academic year, offering an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact on pupils’ learning and development.
You will play a vital role supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and those with English as an Additional Language (EAL), helping them to engage fully in school life and achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
Morning:
- Provide 1:1 support to a pupil in a Year 3 class with ALN needs, following their individual education plan (IEP).
- Assist the class teacher with differentiation and targeted interventions.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours.
Afternoon:
- Support groups of pupils across the school with English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Deliver structured language and literacy support activities.
- Help pupils build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Promote inclusion and celebrate cultural diversity within the school.
General Duties:
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCo, and EAL coordinators.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and support activities.
- Contribute to a positive, caring, and stimulating learning environment.
- Uphold the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience supporting pupils with ALN and/or EAL in a primary school setting.
- A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to learning support.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent - Childcare, Health and Social care).
- Experience supporting pupils in Key Stage 2.
- Knowledge of strategies to support speech, language, and communication needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
