Special Educational Needs Support Assistant
£11.83 - £13.00 per hour

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for an SEN Support Assistant to support children within education in Key Stages 3 & 4 in one of our partnership Secondary Schools in the Treorchy area. This position is running on a full-time basis and will continue for the entirety of this academic year (Until July) with a proposed start date of Jan. What does an SEN Support Assistant do?

  • Support students with Special Educational Needs in school
  • Escort students around the school campus
  • Manage challenging behaviours of students
  • Keeping students task focused
  • Assist with understanding of tasks in class and read out work
  • Work on a 1:1 basis or within a classroom setting
  • Responsible for safeguarding and wellbeing of students

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who is looking for a new and rewarding career. You will be placed alongside different students with a range of different needs such as Autism, ADHD, physical disabilities and more. No day will ever be the same in this line of work and it will always keep you one your toes. The school has outlined that an applicant does not need direct experience of working in a school previously, and that those with transferable skills such as sport coaches or care workers are highly desirable.

What is required to be an SEN Support Assistant?

  • No formal educational qualifications necessary
  • Passion for education
  • Patient and caring nature
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate available on the Update Service
  • Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
  • 5 GCSEs in core subjects

Teaching Personnel can provide you with assistance in your DBS & EWC applications. It is imperative that a Teaching Assistant have a solid and confident understanding in core subjects as you will need to comfortably provide assistance with and understand GCSE level work.
