Job description

ob Title: Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Teaching Assistant

Location: Llanelli, Ammanford, and surrounding schools (within 30 minutes’ travel)
Contract: Flexible / Supply / Potential Long-Term

We are seeking a skilled and resilient Additional Learning Needs Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils across a range of schools in Llanelli, Ammanford, and nearby areas.

About the Role

As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored, one-to-one and small group support for children with additional learning needs. This may include:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Challenging behaviour

Some roles will also involve supporting pupils with personal care, so flexibility and a compassionate approach are essential.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting children with ALN, ideally in a primary school setting

  • Strong, capable, and proactive, with the ability to stay calm under pressure

  • Adaptable, able to use a range of strategies to engage and support children with complex needs

  • Caring and patient, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

Requirements

  • Previous ALN or SEN experience (essential)

  • Understanding of strategies for ASD, PMLD, SEMH, and behavioural needs

  • Willingness and capability to support with personal care duties where required

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply)

  • Relevant qualifications or specialist training (desirable but not essential)
