Job Advert: 1:1 Teaching Assistants for Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Support

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and dedication required to support students who thrive in a more specialized environment?

About Them: The school is committed to providing an exceptional educational experience for children with SEMH needs. Every student at the school has an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) in place, and they are dedicated to helping them achieve their full potential—academically, socially, and spiritually. They aim to prepare their students for the next phase of their lives, equipping them with the skills and confidence to succeed.

The Role: They are currently seeking experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistants to join their team. As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who struggle in mainstream school settings. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing personalized support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage with their learning and overcome barriers to education.
  • Building positive relationships with students to foster a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Implementing individualized strategies to manage challenging behaviours and promote emotional well-being.
  • Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to ensure that each child's needs are met effectively.
  • Encouraging students to achieve highly in all aspects of their education and personal development.

The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Experienced: You should have prior experience working with children in a school setting, particularly those with SEMH needs or similar challenges.
  • Resilient: Working with students with SEMH needs can be challenging, so resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential.
  • Empathetic: A genuine understanding and empathy for the emotional and social challenges these students face.
  • Committed: We are looking for individuals who can commit to a full-time position, with the potential to extend into a permanent role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
