Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

We have had a high demand of roles recently which require specialists in working with complex and severe Mental Health Difficulties. Many of our students are struggling within mainstream education currently and are being temporarily or permanently excluded. This means they are not getting their statutory education entitlements and require specialist 1:1 tuition (both academic and pastoral) to bridge the gap while the Local Authority source a school placement for them.

Predominantly, the referrals we receive across the city are for extremely disaffected students with many of the following conditions:

  • Attachment Disorder
  • Eating Disorders
  • Self-harmers
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Drug and alcohol misuse
  • OCD
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Low self-esteem/body dysmorphia
  • Students who have been bullied

Many of these students present with challenging behaviour, therefore we are looking for canidates who specialise in offering a nurturing approach and who can manage the student's anxiety and subsequent behavioural difficulties.

The ideal candidates for these types of roles will be:

  • Experienced behaviour mentors/youth workers/support workers
  • Experience gained in secure units or mental health units
  • Ex prison staff
  • Experienced working in Pupil Referral Units and Alternative Provisions
  • Team Teach (or equivalent) trained
  • Ex army
  • Sports coaches
  • Experienced working within adult education settings including prison settings

For additional information please contact Emma Frost in the East Midlands SEN branch as soon as possible. January will be the peak time of year for our referrals so we will be inundated, due to many students moving into new social care placements over the Christmas period.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
