Teaching Assistants needed at challenging school

Teaching Personnel is the UK’s leading education recruitment agency. We are currently seeking an SEN teaching assistant to work at one of our local school’s in Bournemouth. The school is a Pupil Referral Unit in Bournemouth, catering for Secondary aged pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education. This includes pupils who are temporarily excluded, permanently excluded and pupils with SEN (Autism, ADHD, SEMH). The pupils can display challenging behaviour. The majority of this role will be working with students on a 1:1 basis and some work may be based off site.

What the role involves:

• working within the class to support the class teacher with their lessons
• working alongside a team of support staff in class
• working on a 1:1 basis with students

This is a part time role, starting immediately. It is a temporary position but there is the opportunity to go permanent for the right candidate.

To be successful in this role it is desirable if you:

• have experience working within a school setting
• have experience working with children and/or adults with challenging behaviour
• are resilient and confident working with challenging behaviour
• have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs, or a willingness to learn
• are able to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a Teaching Assistant in a special needs school
• Have the ability to engage pupils in their learning and support them in their social, emotional and personal wellbeing

The successful candidate must:

• Be confident with working with children with challenging behaviour
• Have a background of working within a school
