Teaching Assistant Vacancy - Swansea

A large specialist school in Swansea requires Teaching Assistants to work within a KS2 ASC class. Pupils within the school have a range of learning, communication, multi-sensory and physical needs and a number of students with severe Autism Spectrum Condition. The role will require you to support the Teacher with individual programmes for pupils specifically with ASC, along with daily activities within the school.

The successful Teaching Assistant must be adaptable to work across the age ranges with individuals with severe learning needs if required, as the pupils age ranges from 3-19.

In order to meet the diverse needs of the learners, the school has adopted a total communication approach incorporating sign, speech, symbols (including PECS), objects of reference, photographs and real objects as appropriate to support the learning of the individual. The successful Teaching Assistant must have previous experience of using alternative methods of communication.

Applicants must have previous experience within a specialist school setting working with both high and low functioning Autism, as well as experience with challenging behaviour.

Experience working with children and young adults with multi sensory impairments and/or complex learning difficulties and disabilities is essential. Applicants must also be comfortable delivering personal care to individuals up to the age of 19.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
