SEN Teaching Assistant (SCLN Focus)

Location: Birmingham Central
Contract: Full-time, long-term (via Teaching Personnel)
Pay: £100–£129 per day (inclusive of SEN allowance)

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school setting, working primarily with children who have Speech, Communication and Language Needs (SCLN). This is a long-term, full-time role offered through Teaching Personnel, ideal for someone passionate about helping pupils develop their communication skills, confidence and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SCLN.

  • Implement strategies recommended by Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT) and SENCo.

  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, adapting activities to meet individual communication needs.

  • Use visual supports, communication aids, and structured language programmes.

  • Promote positive social interaction, emotional regulation and confidence-building.

  • Work closely with class teachers and wider support teams to track progress and contribute to IEPs/EHCPs.

  • Foster an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels supported and understood.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, ideally SCLN.

  • Understanding of speech and language development and/or willingness to undertake relevant training.

  • Patient, calm and consistent, with strong communication and behaviour-support skills.

  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.

  • Reliable, proactive and committed to long-term development in the role.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
