Teaching Personnel are seeking a Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in an alternative provision in Huddersfield.

Our partner school offers a unique environment of high quality education, nurture and care to young people who have complex educational needs, communication difficulties and challenging behaviours. The school boasts a comprehensive programme of support which ensures that individual needs are met to maximise the progress of each young person.

Staff are committed to providing pupils with a happy, nurturing and motivating atmosphere for them to enjoy their learning and where they are encouraged to reach their potential.

The school is situated in Scissett, South East of Huddersfield and provides specialist education and care for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, communication difficulties (autistic spectrum conditions; Asperger's Syndrome; speech, language and communication needs), ADHD and complex learning needs.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide support to Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils in small class sizes of no more than 8 pupils with a high staff to pupil ratio. You will be required to work on a 1:1 or small group basis, taking key responsibility for a core group of pupils, overseeing and monitoring progress, attendance, and delivering Nurture Groups to support the social and emotional development of pupils identified as requiring additional support.

We are seeking individuals who are committed to:

  • Achieving the highest quality education and nurturing care so that every child can achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally
  • Developing positive relationships between school, home and the wider community
  • Providing a happy, positive, secure and caring environment
  • Ensuring that every young person develops resilience and releases their potential by providing the appropriate support for their social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Supporting pupils to develop the competencies and abilities to help them become a capable young adult
  • Integrating the delivery of therapeutic support
  • Developing excellent links with parents, carers and families, as well as professionals involved with a pupil
  • Providing additional support to help pupils engage in classes

In addition to working under the direction of class teachers, you will also be required to liaise with in-school Speech & Language Therapists, Mental Health Practitioners, Occupational Therapists and Assistant Educational Psychologists, supported by a wider Clinical Team, to deliver tailored programmes of holistic, therapeutic support .

This is an opportunity to build your skills by working directly with children and young people and monitoring their work. While it's important that each pupil makes academic achievements, you'll also focus on helping children feel accepted and raising their self-esteem. The difference you can make can be enormous - you'll be playing a big part in creating the best possible outcomes for them. Please use the application links provided to register your interest in a role with Teaching Personnel.
