SEMH Teaching Assistant

Are you dedicated to supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs?

If so, this role is for you! A specialised SEN school in Christchurch is seeking a passionate Teaching Assistant to join their team!

 

The Role

As a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) focused Teaching Assistant you will play a key role in providing the best support possible to students aged 11-16 years old.

This is a Pupil Referral Unit setting for pupils unable to access mainstream education due to needs and diagnoses of the following:

  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety and behavioural difficulties
  • Medical-based needs preventing mainstream attendance
  • Many pupils have experience disrupted education and require tailored, extensive support

Facilities: Small, nurturing classes; calm spaces for pastoral and therapeutic support

Curriculum:

  • Core subjects (English, Maths, Science, Geography, Art, Food Tech, PE, PSHE) leading to GCSEs, ASDAN, functional skills, and vocational qualifications
  • Individual Education Plans aligned with EHCPs using the graduated response model
  • Partnerships with Educational Psychologists, SENSS, CAMHS and health professionals, with targeted literacy/spelling/dyscalculia intervention

 

Who We Are Looking For

  • SEMH experience in or out of an educational setting
  • Able to collaborate with teachers and other support staff
  • Understanding of challenging behaviours
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
  • Able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and safely

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
