A Secondary School in Newport are looking to appoint a Special Needs Assistant on a full time, long term basis, as soon as possible. Interviews are to be held over the next two weeks!
Your role will be to support pupils with additional needs including Autism, Speech, Language and Communication Needs and Moderate Learning Disabilities. You will support pupils to enable access to the curriculum, facilitate independent learning and promote inclusion. As well as supporting access to learning, the Special Needs Assistant role will crucial to pupils achieving greater autonomy, higher academic standards, and greater social awareness.
We require individuals who are flexible, patient and able to remain calm under pressure with pupils who may display challenging behaviour. You will also need to use your initiative, as although working under the guidance of a class teacher, there will be occasions when you will be required to make quick decisions.
As a Special Needs Assistant you will be required to:
- Attend to the pupils' personal needs
- Supervise and support pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning
- Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
- Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes
