An Independent Special School in Somerset is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join their supportive and nurturing team.
The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning within the classroom. You will work closely with the Class Teacher and wider school team to help create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment for Primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assisting with the delivery of a mixed curriculum tailored to individual needs
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
- Helping pupils to engage with learning and develop social skills
- Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times
- Contributing to a calm, consistent and nurturing classroom environment
The school provides both weekly boarding and day placements and supports boys aged 5–13 years with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Experience supporting children with SEN and/or SEMH needs (educational or care setting)
- A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
- Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff
- Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
- Confidence supporting pupils across KS1, KS2 and KS3
- Ability to remain calm and support de-escalation during challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
