Job description

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant  to work at one of our local school’s in Poole. It is a Secondary school that offers a large variety of vocational courses for students. The school provides full time education for young people who are not accessing mainstream schools. This may be due to Social Emotional and Mental Health needs or they may have been excluded from mainstream school for various reasons. The average class is up to six students and it is a school that encourage and deliver outdoor education. 

What the role involves:

  • working within the class to support the class teacher with their lessons
  • working alongside a team of support staff in class
  • working on a 1:1 basis with students

This is a part time role, starting immediately. It is a temporary position but there is the opportunity to go permanent for the right candidate.

To be successful in this role it is desirable if you:

  • have experience working within a school setting
  • have experience working with children and/or adults with learning difficulties
  • be resilient and confident working with challenging behaviour and or students with SEMH
  • have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs, or a willingness to learn
  • Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a Teaching Assistant in a special needs school
  • Have the ability to engage pupils in their learning and support them in their social, emotional and personal wellbeing
  • be nurturing and enthusiastic
  • have experience in delivering outdoor education/experience within the sports industry

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later
