Teaching Assistant

Job description

Our client school in Chorley have approached us to assist in the recruitment of Teaching Assistants to support their children with Autism.

The school is a specialist school, catering for pupils with Autism, Aspergers, BESD, Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties and Sensory Impairments.

The pupils you will be supporting are aged 14-16 and are accessing GCSE subjects. They are of average or above average intelligence but may have specific learning difficulties and some may have slight difficulties with speech or in understanding and processing language.

Your role will require working on a 1:1 basis, delivering GCSE subjects, across the curriculum. The work will be set for you and you will not be expected to plan, however the school are particularly interested in candidates with a specialist subject, interest or hobby, that can be used to engage the student in education. Examples include sports, languages, quizzes, gaming, music, deisgn, ICT etc! You will also assist the pupil in learning life skills and supporting their social, emotional and mental wellbeing.

You will ideally have experience in Autism, understanding the requirement for structure and routine, but being flexible enough to alter the working day and your plans, to suit the needs of the students.

The school have stressed that they are looking for Teaching Assistants who are innovative and can really engage their students in education, thinking outside the box to deliver lessons that really pique the pupils’ interests. Although the pupils aren’t necessarily challenging in their behaviours, you will have the ability to use their interests to distract the pupil from any periods where motivation is lacking and re-engage the student in the task at hand. 

The working hours will be 8:30am – 3:30pm.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
