Job Description: Teaching Assistant

This Teaching Assistant role is to support a set of twin pupils in a year 1 who have speech and language difficulties. You must support the twins in their day to day activities within the school and when needed use intervention methods to improve their speech and language. Due to the twin’s speech and language difficulties they sometimes struggle in social situations due to a breakdown in communication, you must aid either twin communicate with other pupils when needed to improve their social interaction and make play as inclusive as possible. On the rare occasion you will be expected to provide personal care for either twin as they sometimes have the tendency to have accidents. Although this has proven to be easily avoidable with prompting from an adult to use the toilet when needed.

The School:

This school situated in the heart of Caldicot has a school motto of ‘Learning, living, laughing together’ and the school aims to create, give, develop and teach. This school currently has over 200 pupils and cater for children aged from 3 to 11 years old. This school have identified that approximately 29% of their pupils have additional learning needs, 9 of which have a statement of special educational needs. In the schools latest inspection ESTYN graded all inspection areas as ‘adequate’. ESTYN commented that most pupils make adequate progress in relation to their starting points during their time at the school. Also, they noted that teachers use a variety of teaching strategies appropriately to meet the needs of most pupils.

  • Show strong levels of compassion and empathy
  • Can support pupils in their academic work
  • Be able to support children with speech and language difficulties
  • Personal care experience desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
