Job description

Teaching Assistant – Day-to-Day Temporary Cover

Location: Yeovil, Somerset
Setting: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) – Year 11
Contract: Temporary / Day-to-Day Supply

We are working with a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Yeovil that supports Year 11 pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. The provision has a small cohort of up to 15 pupils, allowing for a highly personalised and supportive learning environment.

The school is seeking experienced Teaching Assistants to provide day-to-day temporary cover on an as-needed basis.

The Role:

  • Providing classroom support during staff absences

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional SEN needs

  • Working 1:1 or with small groups of pupils

  • Assisting with learning activities and engagement

  • Supporting behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

  • Helping to maintain a safe, calm and structured environment

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a PRU, SEN, SEMH or alternative provision

  • Is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour

  • Is flexible, reliable and able to adapt quickly to different situations

  • Remains calm, patient and resilient under pressure

  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
