Job description

Teaching Assistant – Secondary Alternative Provision (KS4)

Location: Blackburn with Darwen
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday

  • Monday–Thursday: 8:00am – 3:20pm

  • Friday: 8:00am – 2:30pm
    Pay: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a Secondary Alternative Provision supporting students in Key Stage 4. This is a rewarding full-time role for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people who require additional behavioural and emotional support.

The Role

  • Supporting students with challenging behaviour in a structured and supportive learning environment

  • Working closely with teaching staff to promote engagement, progress, and positive behaviour

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs

  • Acting as a positive role model and building strong, trusting relationships with students

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Has experience working with young people in a support, care, or mentoring capacity

  • Is resilient, consistent, and confident in setting boundaries

We Encourage Applications From Candidates With Backgrounds In:

  • Support work or youth work

  • Personal or lived experience relevant to working with young people

  • Sports coaching or physical activity roles

  • Military, policing, or other uniformed services

Experience within education is desirable but not essential—the right attitude, commitment, and ability to engage young people are key.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
