Teaching Assistant – SEN Secondary School – Andover

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and caring team at a specialist secondary school in Andover. The school caters to students with moderate learning difficulties and is seeking a committed individual to start in September. This is a full-time position, although part-time hours may be considered for the right candidate.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students aged 11-16 with moderate learning difficulties, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom. You will assist with delivering tailored educational programmes, providing one-to-one support, and helping to create a positive and inclusive environment. The school prides itself on creating a nurturing atmosphere where students are encouraged to reach their full potential, with a strong focus on both academic and personal development.

You will work closely with the teaching team to support students in achieving their individual learning goals, promoting positive behaviour, and assisting with personal care needs where required.

  • Working Hours: Full-time (term-time only), part-time may be considered for the right candidate

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, preferably in a secondary school setting

  • A calm, patient, and flexible approach

  • A strong desire to make a positive impact on students’ learning and development

  • Ability to support students with a variety of needs, including communication and social challenges

  • Strong teamwork skills and an empathetic nature

  • A commitment to providing high-quality support for students both academically and socially

Essential Requirements:

  • A valid Child Workforce Enhanced DBS, registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one at your own cost)

  • Full eligibility to work in the UK

  • A clean driving licence (drivers are preferred but not essential)
