Teaching Personnel are seeking to appoint an Autism Teaching Assistant to help promote the learning and personal development of children with Autism in a school within the Thornbury area. This fantastic school located on a beautiful estate and provides pupils with a safe, secure and nurturing environment to develop life and independence skills. Your focus as an Autism Teaching Assistant will be to support several students in an individualised and adapted capacity both 1:1 and in small groups, you will assist with the schools drive to provide excellent academic education and ensure every child realises their potential.

This is an incredibly rewarding role with results apparent every day, you have the chance to see each child grow and develop. You will work alongside other staff members in the classroom to encourage positive behaviours, contribute positively to the educational surroundings and ensure a safe and secure environment at all times.

A Successful Autism Teaching Assistant….

  • Experience working with children with Autism is desirable but not essential
  • Proactive and happy to self-direct
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication with children with disabilities 
  • Must show patience, enthusiasm and be committed
  • Confidence in managing challenging behaviour
  • Must have a passion or interest in working with children with SEN needs (Autism)

You must have a natural aptitude on the behaviour management and interpersonal skills as well as a very enthusiastic and positive manner. You must be able to have a level of resilience, have a good sense of humour, be able to build rapport easily and will ideally have experience working with students who have Autism.
