Job description

Teacher (QTS) – Oldham, Greater Manchester

We are recruiting a resilient and committed PRU Teacher (QTS) to work within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Oldham. This role is ideal for a qualified teacher with a strong interest in behaviour support, trauma-informed practice and inclusive education.

You will support pupils who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion, delivering structured, engaging learning that promotes re-engagement, emotional regulation and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons aligned with the secondary curriculum and individual learning needs.

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour and barriers to learning.

  • Create a calm, consistent and structured classroom environment.

  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

  • Contribute to individual support plans, behaviour plans and EHCP targets where applicable.

  • Work closely with pastoral teams, SENCOs, teaching assistants and external agencies.

  • Monitor progress and engagement through accurate record-keeping.

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and professional practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience teaching secondary-age pupils (mainstream, PRU or alternative provision).

  • Strong behaviour-management skills.

  • Calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach.

  • Full availability Monday–Friday during school hours.

Preferred (Not Essential)

  • Experience in PRUs, SEMH settings or alternative provision.

  • Ability to deliver functional skills or life-skills learning.

Vetting & Compliance

  • Two years of employment references.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (support available).

  • Overseas Police checks if applicable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
