Looking ahead to post February half term, where schools will be reopening, there is likely to be a high demand for supply teachers. Schools are preparing to mass test students upon return as well as prepare for an influx of absences to continue as they reopen. This will be compounded by the number of pre-planned absences within secondary schools and those other reactive requirements. The role of a supply teacher is to cover lessons in the absence of the classroom teacher ensuring students remain on task and engaged. The work is already planned and will be marked by the permanent class teacher providing flexibility for the supply teacher. There is a requirement to be adaptable and flexible in your nature as a supply teacher as plans can sometimes change last minute. Taking on supply work can be very beneficial as this can often lead to securing longer term work.

Key aspects of the supply teacher role:

• Day to day pay GBP95 - GBP130 per day depending on school and subject specialism
• Fully flexible for part time, temporary and full-time positions
• Options to teach subject specialism or offer general cover
• Day to day assignments, short – medium term of around 1 – 3 weeks and also longer-term opportunities

During the first term of this academic year, schools in the South Manchester area found themselves inundated with cover requirements given the increase in absences within school.
