Job description
Cover Supervisor – Basingstoke
September Start | Ideal for Graduates, Aspiring Teachers & Experienced Teachers Seeking Better Work-Life Balance
Are you a university graduate considering a career in teaching, an unqualified teacher looking to gain valuable classroom experience, or an experienced teacher wanting to remain in education without the demands of planning and marking?
Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Cover Supervisor for a highly regarded secondary school in Basingstoke for a September start. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving and ambitious school known for its strong sense of community, high expectations, excellent pastoral support, and commitment to helping every student succeed. The school has grown significantly in recent years and prides itself on creating a culture where students feel they belong and are encouraged to achieve their very best.
Why Choose a Cover Supervisor Role?
Cover Supervision is one of the most effective ways to gain hands-on classroom experience while developing the confidence and skills needed for a future career in education.
This role is particularly suited to:
- Graduates exploring teaching as a career
- Aspiring teachers preparing for a PGCE, SCITT, or School Direct programme
- Unqualified teachers seeking school-based experience
- Former teachers looking for a role with less responsibility
- Individuals from tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or support work backgrounds
- Those seeking meaningful full-time, part-time, or flexible education work
The Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes across a range of subjects, ensuring learning continues in the teacher's absence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering pre-planned lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Managing behaviour in line with school policies
- Creating a positive and productive classroom environment
- Encouraging students to remain focused and engaged
- Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and additional learning needs where required
This is an excellent opportunity to gain classroom experience without the additional workload typically associated with a teaching role.
About the School
The school is recognised for its commitment to student wellbeing, inclusivity, and academic success. Students benefit from a broad curriculum, extensive extracurricular opportunities, and a strong culture of respect and kindness. Ofsted highlighted the school's high expectations, outstanding personal development provision, strong behaviour culture, and excellent pastoral support systems. Students are encouraged to celebrate diversity, develop their talents, and actively participate in school life.
The school prides itself on its ethos of "making success inevitable" and has established a reputation for helping young people achieve both academically and personally.
