Job Advertisement: Sports Coach – SEMH School, Wirral
A Wirral-based SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school is seeking a full-time Sports Coach to join their dedicated team. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young people who have faced barriers to success in mainstream education.
The school works with students who require additional support with their social, emotional, and behavioural needs. The successful Sports Coach will use sport and physical activity as a powerful tool to re-engage pupils, build confidence, and promote positive personal development. The ideal candidate will bring energy, empathy, and resilience, serving as a positive role model for students who benefit greatly from consistency and encouragement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning and delivering inclusive, engaging sports sessions tailored to individual student needs.
- Encouraging teamwork, communication, and resilience through structured physical activities.
- Supporting students in building confidence, developing positive attitudes, and improving emotional wellbeing.
- Forming strong, trusting relationships to support pupils’ social and emotional development.
- Working collaboratively with teaching and support staff to ensure students receive consistent, holistic support.
- Managing challenging behaviours effectively to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
Requirements:
- Experience working with young people, ideally within SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for sport and physical activity, with the ability to inspire and motivate disengaged learners.
- Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Relevant sports coaching or PE qualifications are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
