Teaching Assistant – Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Location: Wirral
Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm (Term-time only)
Setting: Secondary School (Ages 11–16), Small Class Sizes

This Wirral-based secondary SEN school is dedicated to creating an inclusive, nurturing, and supportive environment where every pupil can thrive. With all students holding an EHCP, the school places a strong focus on tailored support, positive relationships, and holistic development.


About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both academically and emotionally. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Providing individual and small-group support for students with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Working with pupils who have PMLD and complex needs
  • Using strategies to help students regulate emotions and manage behaviour
  • Encouraging a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture
  • Promoting students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being
  • Collaborating closely with teaching staff to ensure the best outcomes for every learner

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be resilient, patient, and calm under pressure
  • Have experience working with secondary-aged students, particularly those with SEN or SEMH needs
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be adaptable, proactive, and able to respond to individual pupil needs
  • Be passionate about safeguarding and supporting young people
  • Show genuine care for the welfare, development, and well-being of students

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
