Speech, Language and Communication Specialist – Primary School (Prescot)

Start Date: April 2026
Location: Prescot, L34
Contract: Full-time, Term-time
Pay Rate: £14.30 - £15 per hour (DOE)

We are looking for a Speech, Language and Communication Specialist to join a warm, nurturing primary school in Prescot, starting this April. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on making a meaningful difference—especially with pupils who are non-verbal or emerging communicators within EYFS and KS1.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Targeted Communication Support: Work 1:1 and with small groups of non-verbal or speech-delayed children, implementing personalised strategies and communication tools.
  • Collaborative Practice: Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver effective, consistent interventions.
  • Creative Engagement: Use play-based, multisensory, and visual communication methods to help children express their needs and emotions.
  • Positive Impact: Support pupils at a vital stage of their development, helping them grow in confidence and reach key milestones.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children with speech, language, and communication needs, particularly non-verbal pupils.
  • Knowledge of communication strategies and interventions suitable for EYFS and KS1, such as PECS, Makaton, or visuals.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when supporting children with additional needs.
  • A genuine passion for breaking down barriers and helping young learners find their voice.
