Job description

Role: Speech and Language Teaching Assistant – Primary SEN

Location: Birmingham B31

Contract: Full time 8:30 – 3:30

Do you love working with young children and helping them feel heard, understood, and confident? Are you naturally patient, caring, and encouraging? If so, we’d love to welcome you into our Primary SEN school community in Birmingham.

We’re looking for a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant who brings warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm into the classroom. This is a role where the small moments really matter — a child using a new word, making eye contact, or smiling because they feel understood.

You’ll work closely with supportive teachers and speech and language therapists, helping children develop their communication skills through play, structure, and positive relationships.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting primary-aged children with speech, language, and communication needs
  • Working one-to-one and in small groups in a calm, nurturing way
  • Using visuals, routines, and play-based activities to encourage communication
  • Celebrating progress, no matter how small
  • Being a consistent, reassuring presence for our pupils

We’d Love to Hear from You If You Are:

  • Kind, patient, and genuinely enjoy working with young children
  • Passionate about helping children with SEN thrive
  • Happy to learn, take guidance, and work as part of a caring team
  • Reliable, positive, and approachable

What We Offer You:

  • On going support and communication from a dedicated consultant
  • Continuous CPD learning
  • Growth and experience

If you believe every child deserves the chance to communicate in their own way, we would love to hear from you.
