Job description

Teaching Team Member – Specialist Provision for Long-Term Non-Attenders

Full-Time Position – Immediate Start
Pay: £110 - £120 per day

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and adaptable individual to join a small, close-knit teaching team in a provision designed to support long-term non-attenders of school. This role is ideal for an HLTA, instructor, cover supervisor, or an experienced teaching assistant seeking a step up in their career. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the reintegration of students into a specialist school environment, all while providing tailored support to meet their individual needs.

About the Role:

In this role, you will be supporting a small group of students—usually one-on-one or in small groups of up to five—who have struggled with school attendance. Your primary focus will be to engage with students in basic English, Maths, and some GCSE-level topics, helping them regain confidence and motivation in their learning journey. The role is varied, with each day offering new challenges and rewards, so you’ll need to be flexible and ready to tackle anything that comes your way.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading lessons in basic English, Maths, and some GCSE topics, ensuring they are accessible and engaging for all students

  • Providing one-on-one support to students, catering to their individual learning needs

  • Assisting in reintegrating students back into a specialist school setting and supporting their academic progress

  • Managing and supporting students in overcoming barriers to learning and behaviour, including challenging behaviours when they arise

  • Supporting students offsite on work experience days, helping them develop essential life and work skills

  • Supporting outdoor learning and engaging students in alternative, practical activities when required

About You:

This role is suited to someone who has previous experience in an educational setting and feels confident in leading lessons, even in subjects outside their usual specialism. You will need to be proactive, flexible, and able to manage the diverse needs of students in a provision setting. The role can be unpredictable, so being confident, adaptable, and willing to get stuck in with any daily tasks that arise is essential.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A HLTA, instructor, cover supervisor, or a very experienced teaching assistant

  • Confident in delivering basic English and Maths lessons, with some experience or willingness to teach GCSE topics in areas like ICT

  • Able to adapt and thrive in a varied role, managing both in-class and offsite work experience support

  • Comfortable supporting students with challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive way

  • Enthusiastic about outdoor learning and supporting students in non-traditional settings

  • Team-oriented and eager to contribute to a supportive and collaborative environment

  • Confident, proactive, and willing to tackle any tasks that arise during the day

  • Able to drive students offsite for work experience opportunities, with access to a vehicle (where required)

Additional Information:

  • Pay: £110 - £120 per day, depending on experience

  • A DBS on the update service will be required, at the successful candidate’s own cost

  • The role is full-time, with a start date as soon as possible

  • This is a rewarding and dynamic role, with the opportunity to see real progress in students' lives

If you are passionate about supporting students with varied needs and enjoy a hands-on, varied role that will challenge and reward you, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
