Specialist Autism Support Assistant

We are seeking a Specialist Autism Support Assistant to join our inclusive and forward-thinking primary school. This is a full-time role, essential for maintaining consistency and routine for the children you’ll be supporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for children with autism.
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
- Support children in developing communication, social, and emotional skills.
- Create and maintain a calm, structured, and predictable learning environment.
- Use strategies such as visual timetables, sensory tools, and social stories to support engagement and understanding.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting children and/or young people with autism.
- Strong understanding of autism and associated needs, including sensory processing and communication differences.
- Ability to commit to full-time hours, Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to support.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special educational needs.
- Experience working in a primary school setting.
- Training in autism-specific approaches (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, Makaton).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
